Description

Graffiti and Ink Removal

Quita Grafitis Monestir is a powerful alkaline cleaner formulated to remove graffiti and other stubborn stains caused by ink, markers, and certain paint residues. It is particularly suitable for maintenance and restoration work on concrete facades, single-layer cladding, exposed brick, natural stone, and other mineral surfaces.

It can be used on both porous and certain non-porous materials, although compatibility should always be checked before performing a complete cleaning.

Chemical Action on Dirt

The product works by gradually softening and breaking down the components of paint or ink, facilitating their subsequent removal through mechanical action or pressurized water.

The current commercial formulation includes glycols, alkaline hydroxides, and surfactants. Its high alkalinity allows it to tackle particularly stubborn dirt, but also requires careful monitoring of its use on delicate surfaces.

It should not be confused with a multipurpose household cleaner: it is an intensive cleaning product intended for localized applications.

Direct Application on Graffiti

Monestir recommends applying the product generously by spraying it over the entire affected surface. It is important to completely cover the graffiti so that the product can act uniformly.

After application, allow the product to sit for approximately 20–30 minutes. During this time, the product softens the paint or ink.

Once the reaction time has elapsed, the surface can be scrubbed with a stiff brush, applying mechanical pressure to the graffiti residue until it comes off.

On durable exterior surfaces, cleaning can also be completed using a pressure washer or high-pressure water gun, which removes the loosened residue and rinses the surface.

Treatment of Delicate Surfaces

Before cleaning an entire surface, it is essential to test the product on a small, inconspicuous area.

The manufacturer issues a special warning regarding plastics and previously painted surfaces, as the product’s alkalinity and stripping power may alter, soften, or remove the existing finish.

In these cases, Monestir recommends a more controlled procedure: first dampen a cloth, saturate it with Quita Grafitis, and wipe only the stained area. Immediately afterward, rinse thoroughly with water to minimize contact time with the surface.

This method is particularly useful when the graffiti is on a painted surface that you wish to preserve.

Technical Data

Monestir’s technical data sheet describes the product as an alkaline aqueous solution containing degreasing agents and surfactants.

The published data indicate:

Physical state: liquid.

Color: yellow-brown.

pH at 1%: approximately 12.0–12.5.

Density at 20 °C: approximately 1.040–1.080 kg/m³.

Alkaline formulation.

Contains alkali hydroxides and surfactants.

Its high alkalinity explains both its cleaning power and the need to handle it with caution.

Safety During Use

The product can cause serious injury upon contact. Chemical-resistant gloves and eye protection must be worn, and any direct contact with the skin and eyes must be avoided.

When applying by spraying, avoid unnecessary inhalation of the aerosol and work in a well-ventilated area.

It must not be mixed with other cleaning products unless Monestir expressly indicates their compatibility.

Final Rinsing

Once the paint has been removed, rinse thoroughly with water to remove both the graffiti residue and any residue from the cleaner itself.

On highly porous surfaces, it may be necessary to repeat the rinsing process to prevent the loosened residue from re-penetrating the material.

When the graffiti is very old, consists of multiple layers, or uses particularly resistant paints, it may be necessary to repeat the application rather than excessively increasing the processing time.
