Ampliar Specialized Cleaning for Blackened Grout Lines
Monestir Grout Cleaner is a specialized cleaner with descaling and whitening properties, developed to restore grout lines in ceramic floor and wall tiles that have darkened due to dirt buildup. It is especially suitable for grout lines in tiles, ceramic, stoneware, and porcelain stoneware, and can be used on both floors and walls, as well as on interior and exterior surfaces.
Its formulation targets dirt that gradually penetrates the surface of the grout lines and is difficult to remove with conventional cleaning detergents. It is particularly useful in bathrooms, kitchens, high-traffic areas, and on ceramic floor and wall tiles where the grout lines have lost their original clean appearance.
Monestir formulates this product with a mixture of inorganic acids, along with less than 5% nonionic surfactants and fragrance. The acidic action helps remove mineral deposits and encrusted dirt adhering to the grout lines.
The technical data sheet published by Monestir provides the following information:
Physical state at 20 °C: liquid.
Color: red.
pH at 1%: approximately 2.0–2.5.
Density at 20 °C: 1,100–1,140 kg/m³.
Acidic formulation.
Nonionic surfactants: less than 5%.
Its low pH explains its high descaling capacity, but it also makes it necessary to carefully monitor the materials on which it is used.
The product is ready for direct application to grout lines. Spray it directly onto the area to be cleaned, taking care to wet mainly the grout line and avoiding unnecessary contact with sensitive materials.
Monestir’s current instructions recommend letting it sit for approximately one minute. During this time, the product begins to soften and remove the accumulated grime.
Next, scrub the grout with a brush or green scouring pad. The mechanical action helps remove the grime that has been chemically loosened by the cleaner.
Once cleaning is complete, it is essential to rinse thoroughly with water. You can use a damp sponge, cloth, or mop to completely remove any remaining product and loosened dirt.
For particularly blackened grout lines, the procedure can be repeated in a controlled manner rather than prolonging the contact time excessively.
It is specifically designed for:
Grout lines in ceramic flooring.
Wall tiles and wall coverings.
Stoneware.
Porcelain stoneware.
Bathrooms and showers.
Kitchens.
Indoor ceramic floors.
Compatible exterior flooring and wall coverings.
Monestir notes that it can generally be used on flooring that is not sensitive to acids.
Precautions Regarding Stone and Cementitious Materials
This limitation is particularly important. Since this is an acidic product, it should not be applied indiscriminately to calcareous natural stone, polished marble, terrazzo, or other acid-sensitive materials. Nor should it be left to act for extended periods on cementitious surfaces without first testing their resistance.
When joints are surrounded by a material whose compatibility is unknown, it is advisable to first conduct a test on a small, inconspicuous area.
The goal is to clean the joint, not to use the product as a general cleaner for the entire surface.
Although both are acidic products from Monestir, they serve different purposes.
Sanet is a concentrated construction cleaner designed to remove cement, mortar, saltpeter, efflorescence, and certain mineral residues from entire surfaces, and it can be diluted to varying degrees depending on the substrate.
Limpia Juntas is specifically formulated and packaged for quick, localized application on blackened grout lines in flooring and wall tiles. For this reason, it is best to keep both listed as separate entries in the catalog.
It should also not be confused with Limpia Moho. Limpia Moho uses hypochlorite and is primarily designed to remove and bleach stains caused by mold, mildew, and moisture.
Grout Cleaner uses an acidic formula to primarily attack embedded dirt and buildup in the grout. Choosing one or the other will depend on the source of the stain.
The safety data sheet warns that the product may cause skin irritation and serious eye irritation. Gloves and eye protection must be worn during application, and direct contact with skin and eyes must be avoided.
The work area must be kept properly ventilated, and the product must be kept out of the reach of children.
Since it is an acidic cleaner, it must not be mixed with bleach, Limpia Moho, or other products containing hypochlorite, as combining acidic products with hypochlorite can release hazardous gases. It must also not be mixed with other cleaning products unless expressly indicated by the manufacturer.
After use, it is important to rinse thoroughly with water until all residue is completely removed.
Monestir currently markets Limpia Juntas in a 750 ml spray bottle, ready for direct application. I have not found any other current formats of this product with sufficient support to be considered variants.
