Description

The RUBI DC-250 SMART ADVANCE is a professional electric movable-head tile cutter designed for cutting porcelain tile, glazed tile, and other ceramic materials. Its key feature is the SMART ADVANCE intelligent automatic feed system, which electronically analyzes cutting force and adapts the machine’s operation to the material, thickness, and behavior of the blade to ensure uniform cuts, reduce operator intervention, and maximize blade performance.

Intelligent Automatic Cutting

The DC-250 SMART ADVANCE can operate in either manual or automatic mode. In automatic mode, it uses an integrated electronic system that continuously analyzes power consumption during cutting and adjusts the feed rate based on the resistance encountered by the blade.

The analysis process occurs continuously during cutting. The system takes into account the resistance of the tile, the blade’s actual performance, and the parameters corresponding to the selected level to determine an appropriate feed rate.

The four performance levels allow for different prioritization of cutting speed and finish quality. This enables the machine to be adapted to different jobs without relying solely on the pressure or speed manually applied by the operator.

Advantages of the SMART ADVANCE system

  • Automatically adjusts feed rate to the difficulty of the cut
  • Takes into account the material and its thickness
  • Analyzes the blade’s performance during operation
  • Maintains a more uniform feed rate
  • Helps achieve consistent finishes
  • Reduces the need to manually control the feed rate
  • Promotes better blade utilization
  • Helps reduce blade dulling
  • Also allows for manual operation

Electronic Protection

The SMART ADVANCE control system incorporates a built-in protection system that can stop the motor and the blade when it detects situations such as a jam or blade dulling that causes an abnormal load.

This protection is particularly important in an automatic feed machine, as it allows the machine to respond to excessive resistance without relying solely on immediate user intervention.

Motor

The DC-250 SMART ADVANCE features a 1.1 kW or 1.5 CV induction motor with belt drive. The assembly is mounted on slide bearings designed to provide precision and reliability during head movement.

IP55

IP55 protection provides protection against the ingress of harmful amounts of dust and against water jets in accordance with the degree of protection specified for the equipment. This does not mean that the machine can be submerged or used in a manner that disregards electrical safety instructions.

Cutting Capacity

The machine provides a straight-cut length of 108 cm in conventional configuration. Using the miter cut function, the maximum longitudinal capacity increases to 121 cm.

The miter saw function allows you to adjust the height of the head and make vertical cuts by lowering the blade onto the tile. In addition to increasing the longitudinal capacity in certain operations, this system facilitates jobs where you do not want to start the cut from one end of the tile.

Tilt-cut function

The movable head can be raised and lowered over the tile, allowing you to adjust the cutting height and make vertical cuts. This configuration expands the machine’s capabilities compared to an electric tile saw, where the head always remains at a fixed height.

Mitre cuts

The cutting assembly can be tilted up to 45° to make mitre cuts. The published maximum mitre capacity is 55 mm, although RUBI specifies 50 mm when using certain special supports.

C3 Python Cooling System

The DC-250 SMART ADVANCE uses RUBI’s C3 Python cooling system to supply water to the blade during cutting. The cooling system helps control the blade’s temperature, remove debris from the contact area, and maintain optimal cutting conditions.

The ability to adjust the flow rate allows the water supply to be tailored to the needs of the job. Keeping the cooling circuit properly operational is especially important during prolonged cuts and when working with hard materials.

ZERO DUST System

The machine incorporates RUBI’s patented ZERO DUST system, developed to reduce the user’s exposure to respirable dust particles generated during cutting operations.

Included Blade

The DC-250 SMART ADVANCE comes configured with a 250 mm CPX PRO diamond blade, specifically designed by RUBI for cutting porcelain tile.

Included Blade
CPX PRO 250
Outer Diameter
250 mm
Inner diameter
25.4 mm

The machine is compatible with suitable 250 mm blades that meet the manufacturer’s specifications for diameter, shank, and application. The choice of blade directly affects the speed, finish, and performance of the automatic system.

Related Blades

  • SPT 250 mm PREMIUM, ref. 32934
  • SPL 250 EXT SUPERPRO, ref. 40910

The blade should be selected based on the material to be cut. A blade specifically designed for porcelain tile may behave differently from one intended for other materials, and the SMART ADVANCE system also adapts its operation based on the actual response it receives from the blade during cutting.

Working with 12 mm Tiles

RUBI recommends that all four levels of the SMART ADVANCE system can be used for tiles approximately 12 mm thick.

Approximate thickness
12 mm
Available levels
1, 2, 3, and 4

The specific level chosen will depend on the desired balance between speed and finish, as well as the particular characteristics of the material and the installed blade.

Working with 20 mm tiles

For tiles approximately 20 mm thick, RUBI recommends considering both the hardness of the material and the blade used. The manufacturer specifically mentions the SPT blade for this type of application.

For low- or medium-hardness materials, levels 1, 2, or 3 can be used. For hard tiles, RUBI recommends working at level 1 or using manual cutting mode.

Maintenance and Proper Use

Since this is a water-cooled electric cutter, it is important to keep the work area, the water circuit, and the moving parts clean. Before starting to cut, ensure that the blade is in good condition, properly installed, and suitable for the material.

You should also maintain sufficient coolant flow and avoid working with a blade that is excessively worn, dull, or unsuitable. Although the electronic system includes protection against certain abnormal conditions, proper maintenance remains essential to ensure precision and maintain the machine’s performance.
