General Description

Functionality INSULARIS® is a revolutionary technology from Cemex designed to transform building envelopes. Its exclusive formula produces concrete with significantly lower thermal conductivity than conventional concrete. This is achieved through the use of special lightweight aggregates and an optimized cementitious matrix that traps microcells of air, creating a natural barrier against heat flow.

Unlike other insulating materials that lack load-bearing capacity, INSULARIS® maintains structural properties, allowing the building's own skeleton to actively contribute to insulation. This simplifies architectural design, as it reduces or even eliminates the need for additional layers of synthetic insulation, optimizing wall thickness and gaining usable space inside projects. When to use it?

INSULARIS® is the ideal material for projects seeking sustainability certifications (such as LEED, BREEAM, or Passivhaus). Its main applications are: Exposed concrete facades where interior cladding is to be avoided. Load-bearing walls in residential and office buildings with high energy requirements. Correction of thermal bridges in slab fronts and pillars.

Roofs and terraces where lightness and insulation are required simultaneously. Industrialized and prefabricated thermal wall systems. Renovation of old buildings where space for insulation is limited. It is the technical solution par excellence when the architect seeks the aesthetics of raw concrete but must comply with the strictest thermal regulations (CTE).

Application method The installation of INSULARIS® is very similar to that of conventional concrete, although it requires attention to certain key points: It can be supplied by direct pouring or pumping, adjusting the pressure to protect the internal structure of the lightweight aggregate. As it has a lower density, the pressure on the formwork is lower, allowing for lighter work with the molds.

It is essential to respect the curing times to ensure that the matrix reaches its maximum insulation and resistance capacity. Water should not be added on site, as the water/cement ratio is calibrated so as not to compromise the thermal conductivity value (Lambda).

The use of high-quality form release agents is recommended so as not to seal the surface pores if a visible finish is desired. What makes it different? Continuous insulation: Eliminates thermal bridges much more effectively than panel systems.

Space saving: Allows for thinner walls with the same thermal performance. Thermal inertia: Combines insulation with the ability to maintain the internal temperature, reducing air conditioning costs. Fire resistance and durability: Being a mineral material, it offers much greater safety than plastic insulators (EPS/XPS).

Real sustainability: It reduces the building's carbon footprint throughout its useful life thanks to energy savings. INSULARIS® represents the perfect balance between the robustness of concrete and the delicacy of thermal efficiency, allowing for more comfortable, economical to maintain, and environmentally friendly buildings.
