Description

Deep protection without altering the appearance

FILA HydroRep Eco is a water-based water-repellent protector developed to reduce water penetration in porous mineral materials without creating a surface film or intentionally altering their appearance. It is particularly suitable for natural stone and unpolished aggregates, cement and concrete, clay, exposed brick, extruded stoneware, single-layer cladding, plaster, and tuff.

Its application is particularly beneficial on facades and exterior walls, where repeated water ingress can lead to stains, efflorescence, moss growth, and progressive degradation of the substrate.

Water Repellency While Maintaining Breathability

HydroRep Eco penetrates the pores of the material and reduces its affinity for liquid water, while allowing water vapor to pass through. FILA states that the treatment preserves more than 90% of the material’s original breathability.

This is important for facades and mineral-based materials because it prevents the surface from becoming a sealed, film-forming barrier. The substrate can continue to manage the vapor contained within it while significantly reducing water ingress from the outside.

Protection Against Algae and Biodeterioration

The product does more than just repel water. FILA has tested its effectiveness against biodeteriorating organisms in accordance with UNI EN ISO 846:1999.

The treatment creates an environment less conducive to the proliferation of algae, molds, and lichens, making it particularly suitable for facades, walls, and exterior elements exposed to rain, ambient humidity, and shaded areas.

It also offers resistance to UV radiation and helps limit deterioration caused by atmospheric agents.

Efflorescence and Frost

HydroRep Eco helps reduce the appearance of efflorescence or salt deposits, as by limiting water ingress it reduces one of the mechanisms that transport soluble salts to the surface.

For clay and terracotta, FILA states that the treatment does not alter the material’s original frost resistance. This does not mean it makes a non-frost-resistant material frost-resistant: the exterior substrate must have been properly selected and installed.

Water-Based Technology

The product is ready to use and requires no dilution. Its water-based formulation makes application easy and allows tools to be cleaned with water.

It also holds an A+ classification under French VOC emission regulations, reflecting its low emissions into indoor air.

A practical feature highlighted by FILA is that it can be applied even when there is some residual moisture on the substrate, reducing drying times compared to treatments that require the surface to be completely dry; however, it should never be applied over surface condensation.

Surface Preparation

Before applying the treatment, the surface must be clean and able to absorb the product evenly. Dust, dirt, moss, incompatible previous treatments, efflorescence, and contaminants that block the pores must be removed.

For exterior projects, it is important that the construction be properly executed: adequate slopes, expansion joints, ground insulation, and materials suitable for the local climate conditions.

HydroRep Eco is a surface treatment; it does not replace defective structural waterproofing.

Application Until Saturation

The product is applied undiluted, using a brush or other suitable applicator, generously saturating the surface and joints until the material is fully saturated.

The key is for the water repellent to penetrate the substrate. Any product that remains unabsorbed does not provide additional protection and may leave residue.

Before it dries—approximately within 10–15 minutes—any excess on the surface must be removed with a clean cloth.

Tools should be washed immediately with water.

Drying Times

The surface can be walked on again after approximately 4 hours. The water-repellent effect begins to take effect after 24 hours.

Do not apply in intense direct sunlight, on surfaces with condensation, or if rain is forecast. FILA recommends always conducting a preliminary test to verify that the product does not cause color variations on a specific material.

Approximate Coverage

The absorbency of the substrate directly determines consumption

Clay, exposed brick, extruded stoneware, natural stone, and single-layer tiles: 10–20 m²/L.

Cement and cement-based materials
8–10 m²/L.

These coverage rates refer to a single application and are approximate.

Limitations

HydroRep Eco prevents water penetration but does not protect against chemical attack by acids. On marble, limestone, and other sensitive materials, an acidic liquid may continue to react with the mineral itself even if the surface has been waterproofed.

Dried excess can be removed with FASEZERO diluted approximately 1:10 and a white pad or scouring pad, following FILA’s instructions.
