Knauf
Canal U 70
Galvanized steel perimeter channel for guiding drywall structures.
View product60 × 27 mm galvanized steel profile, 0.6 mm thick, for Knauf continuous and self-supporting suspended ceiling systems.
The Knauf Maestra CD 60/27 is a C-shaped metal profile used as a load-bearing element in the substructure of numerous drywall systems. Its nominal cross-section of 60 mm in width and 27 mm in height provides a compact geometry with sufficient rigidity to form continuous ceiling frames and certain types of cladding systems.
In ceiling systems, it functions horizontally as a framework to which gypsum boards are subsequently screwed. It can also be used as a vertical element in braced, self-supporting wall systems, always following the specific configuration defined by Knauf.
It is one of the most versatile profiles in the range because it features a complete family of accessories: direct anchors, hangers, rods, connectors, brackets, longitudinal joints, and Nonius systems.
The Knauf K612 technical data sheet, valid as of October 2025, specifies:
CE and AENOR certification.
Manufactured in accordance with UNE EN 14195.
The profile is manufactured from galvanized steel to provide the necessary protection in the interior environments intended for Knauf systems.
In a continuous ceiling, the CD 60/27 can be used in various ways depending on the system.
In D112b.es configurations, for example, there may be primary and secondary main beams located at different levels and connected using the CD 60/27 Cross Brace.
In the D113.es system, the structure is formed by profiles that intersect at the same level and use the CD 60/27 Cross Connector.
CD 60/27 Direct Anchor.
Combined Hanger + Ø4 mm Rod.
Nonius System.
Pivot Hanger and threaded rod, depending on the configuration.
This variety allows the structure to be adapted to different chamber heights, loads, and construction requirements.
When the system uses two levels of profiles, the primary main beams receive the suspension elements from the base ceiling. The secondary main beams are positioned perpendicularly and directly support the panels.
The CD 60/27 Bracket connects both levels.
When it is necessary to extend a main track because the commercially available length does not cover the entire span, the CD 60/27 Main Track Coupler is used, specifically designed for an aligned longitudinal joint.
Joints must not be improvised using simple overlaps or screws if the system specifies a particular connector.
Knauf also specifies the CD 60/27 as a vertical element in certain self-supporting, braced cladding systems.
In these solutions, the main stud creates a cavity between the existing wall and the panels. This cavity can be used to incorporate thermal/acoustic insulation and certain utilities.
Direct anchors may be used as bracing elements against the base wall in solutions that specify this.
There is no single universal spacing applicable to all CD 60/27 ceilings.
The spacing must be determined based on the chosen system and depends, among other factors, on:
the number and thickness of the panels;
primary/secondary layout;
dead weight of the ceiling;
additional loads;
installed insulation;
required fire resistance;
acoustic performance;
type of suspension;
and room geometry.
For this reason, the tables for the corresponding Knauf system must be followed, and spacing used on another job site should not be automatically copied.
The Maestra CD is part of a structure designed to support the ceiling system defined by Knauf. The presence of the profile does not mean that any installation can be hung directly from it.
Heavy light fixtures, ducts, machinery, HVAC units, or other significant loads may require separate fastening to the floor slab. The allowable additional loads on the ceiling must be verified in the system documentation.
This precaution prevents forces from being transferred to the panel structure for which it was not designed.
The standard Maestra CD 60/27 is primarily intended for interior systems under the environmental conditions specified by Knauf.
For swimming pools, certain wet areas, industrial environments, or spaces with high corrosion levels, the CD 60/27 range with C3-C5M protection is available, along with accessories that offer the same level of protection.
An anti-corrosion main profile should not be mixed indiscriminately with standard connectors if the system requires a specific protection category for all components.
The profiles can be cut to the required length using appropriate sheet metal tools. Care should be taken to ensure a clean cut that does not deform the cross-section.
During installation, the main profiles must be kept aligned and level before installing the panels. An improperly leveled structure will directly affect the final ceiling surface and cannot be adequately corrected later using joint compound.
Knauf accessories are designed to fit the 60/27 profile, simplifying the installation of intersections, splices, and suspension points.
The CD 60/27 stud has CE marking and AENOR certification and is manufactured in accordance with UNE EN 14195, which pertains to metal framing elements used with gypsum board.
