Description

CD 60/27 Profile Cross-Connection at the Same Level

The Knauf CD 60/27 Cross Connector is an accessory specifically designed to connect two CD 60/27 primary profiles that intersect perpendicularly and must be positioned on the same plane within the substructure of a suspended ceiling.

It is typically used in the Knauf D113.es system, where the primary and secondary profiles form a metal grid at the same level. The connector stabilizes the intersection point and keeps both profiles properly aligned without the need to create a second level of profiles.

Knauf specifies the use of one Cross Connector for each connection point.

Do not confuse this with the CD 60/27 Cross Brace.

This distinction is especially important when selecting the accessory.

The CD 60/27 Cross Joint is used when the primary and secondary profiles are at the same level, as in D113.es.

The CD 60/27 Truss, on the other hand, is designed to join main profiles at different levels, as used in systems such as D112b.es and D127.es.

Although both connect CD profiles, their geometry and function within the ceiling are different. Using the correct accessory allows you to replicate the construction configuration that Knauf has defined and tested for each system.

Function Within the Suspended Ceiling

In a continuous ceiling, the metal framework must provide a uniform and stable base to which the gypsum panels are subsequently attached. The intersection points are essential for maintaining the spacing and alignment between the main beams.

The Cross Joint allows you to

Keep the CD 60/27 profiles in the same plane.

Connect primary and secondary profiles.

Maintain the geometry of the framework.

Simplify the assembly of the D113.es structure.

Avoid makeshift connections using screws or parts not included in the system.

The accessory is designed for simple mechanical installation on the CD 60/27 profile.

Material and Manufacturing

The current technical data sheet for Knauf accessories for CD 60/27 specifies manufacturing from DX51D galvanized steel with a minimum Z100 coating.

The product line is manufactured in accordance with EN 13964, the standard for suspended ceilings, and is subject to the corresponding manufacturing controls and tests defined by the manufacturer.

The galvanized coating provides protection against the normal conditions of use expected for interior systems. If the project involves swimming pools, commercial kitchens, severe wet areas, saline environments, or other categories with high corrosion potential, it must be verified whether the system requires accessories with specific corrosion protection.

Installation Within the Grid

The accessory is installed precisely at each intersection between the primary and secondary joists as specified by the system. Both must be correctly positioned before closing the connector.

Knauf specifies one piece per connection point.

The spacing between primary, secondary, and hangers is not determined by the connector, but rather by the chosen ceiling system, the weight of the panels, additional loads, and the required performance specifications. Therefore, the connector should not be used as a reference to improvise a layout different from that specified in the technical data sheet.

In the D113.es system, the framework at the same level allows for the creation of a continuous structure with CD 60/27 primary and secondary profiles, onto which Knauf panels are subsequently screwed.

Difference from the CD 60/27 Main Joint

It is also important to distinguish this from the previous product:

CD 60/27 Main Stud Connector
joins two profiles in a straight line to extend a main stud longitudinally.
CD 60/27 Cross Connector
connects two main studs that intersect perpendicularly at the same level.

They are therefore two completely different accessories and should be listed as separate entries in the catalog.

Handling and Storage

The parts must be stored in a dry place, protected from moisture, water, and chemicals that could affect the galvanized coating. They must not be modified on-site to perform functions other than those specified by Knauf.

Once the system has been dismantled, the steel in the fitting is recyclable when properly separated from other construction waste.
