Description

CD 60/27 Main Profile Intersection at Different Levels

The Knauf CD 60/27 Cross Brace is a metal accessory specifically designed to connect CD 60/27 primary and secondary profiles that are arranged perpendicular to each other and at different levels within certain Knauf suspended ceiling systems.

Its primary function is to create a stable intersection point between the two directions of the profiles without the need for makeshift connections using screws or parts not intended for the system. Knauf specifically recommends it for the D112b.es and D127.es suspended ceiling systems.

It is important to distinguish it from the CD 60/27 Cross Joint: the Truss works with profiles located at different levels, while the Cross Joint is used in the D113.es system when the primary and secondary main beams are in the same plane.

Function within the ceiling structure

In a bidirectional structure, the primary joists support the suspension elements that connect the ceiling to the floor slab or base ceiling. The secondary joists intersect perpendicularly and form the framework to which the panels are subsequently attached.

The CD 60/27 Brace holds both families of profiles together at each intersection, maintaining the geometry and modularity established by Knauf.

The manufacturer specifies one brace per connection point.

Design tailored for the CD 60/27 profile

The accessory is specifically designed to fit the geometry of the CD 60/27 main profile. Knauf highlights several features intended to facilitate installation:

Precise fit on Knauf ceiling profiles.

Adjustment tabs to facilitate proper alignment.

Simple mechanical connection between the primary and secondary main profiles.

The part is supplied unbent, facilitating storage and handling.

This part should not be confused with a suspension element: it does not directly secure the structure to the floor slab, but rather connects the profiles that form the ceiling substructure to one another.

Correct Installation of the Bracket

Knauf’s installation documentation specifies a particular procedure. Before installing the fitting, its wings must be bent approximately 90°.

It is then placed at the intersection point between the primary and secondary profiles. Once correctly positioned, the locking clip must be closed to ensure the profiles are securely fastened together.

This final locking step is important because it prevents the bracket from simply resting on the purlin and ensures the configuration intended by the manufacturer.

The profiles must be properly leveled and aligned before the fasteners are fully secured.

Material and Corrosion Protection

Standard accessories for the Maestra CD 60/27 are made of DX51D galvanized steel with corrosion protection equal to or greater than Z100.

This protection is intended for typical conditions of use in interior drywall systems.

For particularly humid environments, swimming pools, certain industrial facilities, or areas with high corrosion categories, Knauf offers specific CD 60/27 C3-C5M versions. It should not be assumed that the standard Z100 bracket offers the same corrosion resistance as these special versions.

Standards

The CD 60/27 family of accessories is manufactured in accordance with EN 13964, the standard applicable to suspended ceilings and their components.

Knauf subjects these accessories to initial type testing and factory production control within the corresponding evaluation system.

Ceiling Layout

The use of a bracket at each intersection does not, in and of itself, determine the spacing between profiles.

The distance between

primary tracks,

secondary tracks,

suspension points,

and structural joints

depends on the specific system, type and number of panels, ceiling weight, additional loads, and required performance.

Therefore, the installation tables and details for the corresponding Knauf system must always be followed.

Storage and Handling

It must be stored in a dry place, protected from direct moisture and chemicals that could damage the galvanized coating.

Knauf also notes that the metal accessories for its ceiling systems can be removed by hand and are 100% recyclable when properly separated from other construction waste.
