View productZ450 galvanized steel exterior stud, 100/50/1 mm cross-section, for Knauf AQUAPANEL® facade structures exposed to moisture and harsh environments.
The Knauf EX 100 Z4 Stud is a vertical metal profile developed to form the substructure of Knauf AQUAPANEL® facade systems and exterior wall enclosures. Its nominal cross-section is 100/50/1 mm: a 100 mm web, 50 mm flanges, and a 1 mm-thick sheet. This depth provides space to configure enclosure solutions with insulation and air chambers according to the thermal, acoustic, and structural performance requirements of the project.
The profile serves as a support for the AQUAPANEL® panels and as an element responsible for absorbing and transmitting the system’s internal stresses. Knauf specifies that it does not serve a load-bearing structural function for the building; therefore, the main structure and the complete sizing of the facade must be determined in accordance with the project and the corresponding technical data sheet.
One of the main differences compared to a conventional interior partition stud is its high level of corrosion protection. It is manufactured from galvanized steel with a Z450 zinc coating—equal to or greater than 450 g/m²—within the Z4 category intended for exterior use and areas with high exposure to moisture.
Knauf specifies these profiles for facade systems located even within 500 m of the coast or in aggressive environments, where high humidity and the presence of salts significantly increase the risk of corrosion.
This feature is particularly important for projects near the sea: it is not enough to simply use a board suitable for outdoor use; profiles, fasteners, and accessories must also provide the corrosion protection required by the system.
The current EX range is manufactured with a thickness of 1 mm and is part of the optimization of AQUAPANEL® systems. Knauf emphasizes that this new generation reduces steel consumption, facilitates cutting and punching operations, and minimizes thermal bridges associated with the metal substructure.
The product family is available in widths EX 75, EX 100, and EX 125. The selection should not be based solely on the desired facade thickness; factors such as the distance between supports, wind pressure, profile layout, the weight of the enclosure, insulation, and the overall configuration of the solution must also be considered.
Knauf provides specific facade calculations and reports because the spacing between mullions may vary depending on the loads specific to each project.
The EX 100 is installed vertically within the compatible channels of the AQUAPANEL® system. The mullions must be oriented and spaced according to the corresponding technical data sheet and kept properly plumb before the panels are secured.
A standard stud spacing should not be assumed for all facades. The spacing may be influenced by:
Clear height between floor slabs.
Wind pressure and suction.
Number and type of panels.
Simple or reinforced structural configuration.
Weight of additional finishes.
Type of facade.
Distance between supports.
Environmental and exposure conditions.
The fasteners used must be compatible with both the 1 mm thickness of the profile and the system’s exposure class.
The profile is manufactured in accordance with UNE EN 14195, the standard applicable to metal framing elements intended for panel systems.
Galvanized steel.
Not structurally load-bearing.
