Description

Connection Between F47/17 Profiles

The Knauf F47 Main Beam Brace is a cross-member designed to connect F47/17 profiles arranged perpendicularly within a bidirectional suspended ceiling structure.

It is typically used in Knauf D112 system configurations with F47/17 main joists, where there is a primary structure and a secondary structure positioned at different levels.

The cross-brace spans the intersection point between the two main profiles and creates the mechanical connection necessary for the substructure to maintain its proper alignment.

It is not used to extend profiles. For that purpose, the F47 Main Profile Coupler is available, which connects two sections running longitudinally in the same direction.

F47/17 Profile and Bidirectional Structure

The F47/17 Main Beam is one of Knauf’s classic profiles for installing continuous ceilings and certain types of wall linings.

In ceilings with a multi-level structure, the primary profiles are suspended from the base ceiling using the corresponding hanging system. The secondary main profiles are installed below them and later support the gypsum board panels.

The F47 Brace is positioned precisely at the intersections between these two structures.

Knauf also offers equivalent solutions using the CD 60/27 main profile, but the bracket must always correspond to the profile being used. The F47 bracket is designed to fit the geometry of the F47/17 main profile and should not be indiscriminately replaced with CD 60/27 accessories.

On-Site Installation

The Knauf ceiling installation guide specifies that, when constructing a multi-level structure with F47/17, the bracket is prepared by bending its wings to 90° prior to installation.

Once positioned at the intersection between the primary and secondary main profiles, the bracket’s locking clip is closed, ensuring a secure connection between the two profiles.

Before closing the bracket, verify that

the main joists follow the planned spacing,

the primary structure is properly suspended,

the secondary profiles are perpendicular,

and the ceiling maintains the intended level.

The truss facilitates the connection but does not correct an incorrectly modulated or uneven structure.

Metal Material

The Knauf technical data sheet K613b.es specifies that F47 accessories are manufactured from DX51D + Z140 galvanized steel sheet or higher.

The nominal thickness specified for this family of accessories is approximately:

  1. 01 6 mm ± 0.05 mm.

The galvanization protects the steel under the environmental conditions expected for interior systems.

The ≥ Z140 specification is also higher than the ≥ Z100 level specified for the standard CD 60/27 family of accessories.

Standards and Manufacturing Control

Knauf accessories for Maestra F47/17 are manufactured in accordance with EN 13964.

This standard covers components intended for suspended ceilings and addresses aspects such as materials, durability, joint performance, and component performance.

Knauf states that these products are subject to initial type testing and factory production control associated with the corresponding CE marking.

Do Not Confuse with Other F47 Accessories

The range includes several components with different functions

F47 Cross Bracket
for joining profiles at different levels.
F47 Cross Connector
profile intersection in specific ceiling configurations.
F47 Splice
longitudinal extension of a main beam.
F47 Hanger / Suspension
connection of the structure to the base ceiling.
Direct Anchor
direct attachment of the structure to the support.

This distinction is important both in the catalog and on-site because parts that look similar may serve completely different structural functions within the system.

Materials Required and Ceiling Design

The number of trusses depends directly on the number of intersections between primary and secondary profiles.

The ceiling layout should not be determined based on the quantity of available accessories. The distances between profiles and hangers are defined by the selected Knauf system, the weight of the panels, additional loads, and the required performance specifications.

In the material usage tables for the D11 systems, Knauf provides various approximate quantities of hangers per square meter depending on the specific ceiling configuration.

Preservation and Sustainability

The components must be kept dry and protected from direct water, prolonged moisture, and chemicals that could corrode the metal coating.

Knauf specifies that its steel accessories for suspended ceilings are removable and 100% recyclable when managed separately from other waste.
