The Knauf EX 75 Stud is a vertical galvanized steel profile designed to form the support structure for Knauf facade systems and exterior enclosures, particularly solutions using AQUAPANEL panels. Its technical designation is 75/50/1, corresponding to a profile 75 mm wide, with flanges approximately 50 mm wide and a sheet thickness of 1 mm.
It is used in a vertical position to support the exterior panels and transfer the loads generated by the enclosure components to the system’s structure. Knauf expressly specifies that this is a support element for panel systems and not a load-bearing structural profile for the building.
One of its key differences from conventional interior profiles is the level of corrosion protection. It is manufactured from DX51D base steel sheet with a Z450 galvanized coating—equivalent to 450 g/m² or higher—and a Z4 finish for exterior and humid environments.
This protection allows it to be used on facades subjected to demanding environmental conditions. Knauf specifically recommends it for environments located less than 500 m from the coast or in aggressive environments, where a conventional interior profile does not provide the necessary protection against corrosion.
This is particularly important in coastal construction, where the presence of salts and high humidity accelerates the degradation of inadequately protected metal components.
The EX 75 is part of the metal substructure of Knauf exterior systems. It is combined with compatible channels and accessories from the Z4 range to build a complete structure to which the exterior panels are subsequently attached.
Knauf also offers the EX 100 and EX 125 versions, which allow for increasing the cavity depth according to the thermal, acoustic, geometric, or structural requirements of the building envelope. The EX 75 is the most compact option in this family and helps reduce the overall thickness of certain facades.
As part of the recent optimization of the AQUAPANEL system, Knauf notes that the new 1-mm EX profiles reduce material usage, facilitate cutting and punching, and minimize thermal bridges in the substructure compared to certain previous configurations.
The profile complies with UNE EN 14195, the standard applicable to metal framing elements intended for panel systems.
Non-load-bearing structural element.
The mullions must be placed within the corresponding channels, adhering to the spacing, orientation, and module defined in the technical data sheet for the selected AQUAPANEL system. The spacing of the mullions should not be determined solely based on the profile width: the grid spacing depends on the facade height, wind pressure, type and number of panels, fasteners, and the overall configuration of the enclosure.
The fasteners used must also be compatible with the profile thickness and the conditions of outdoor exposure. In systems subjected to corrosive environments, it is important to maintain the appropriate level of protection for all components, not just the stud.
